One Time Bloom
One Time Bloom
September 2024 - Corran Ban
‘Twas a one time bloom like a secret gift
And the fruit was ripe so I reached for it
And the juice was sweet, and it came and went
‘Twas a one time bloom, that was heaven sent
I had just moved in to the old homestead
With a thousand doubts in my youthful head
When a craggy tree that I thought was dead
Gave a one time bloom that was heaven sent
Then I asked from whence did this gift appear
Was it Good King Wenceslas who brought me cheer
But no answer came as the seasons went
‘Twas a one time bloom that was heaven sent
Nectarines that caught my eye
As I rode my mower by
Something told me I was home
Something new would grow
Still I go and visit the craggy tree
Though it’s never bloomed again for me
And I give my thanks at that monument
For the one time bloom that was heaven sent
